So, as any of you who follow me on Twitter probably know, I have been on a rampage about the Mazdaspeed 6. I’ve looked at a couple of them, and it really is one of the best looking vehicles ever made. I was so adamant to buy one, despite my goals to go out and buy a house before I did anything else.
But I’ve changed my mind. And by that, I mean my mom, a.k.a. “the dream-killer”, has talked me out of it.
For those of you unfamiliar with cars (like I am), the Mazdaspeed 6 is the high-end version of the Mazda 6, which itself is quite a good looking car. It is an all-wheel drive, turboed, 270-HP car, putting it in competition (but not quite as fast as) the Subaru Impreza WRX STi and the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, two head-to-head rivals who currently own the rally car championships.
And like the STi and Evo, the Speed6 is only available with a manual transmission. This is a major problem for me, as I did own a standard once, but couldn’t be bothered to learn to drive it, so my mom drove it and I took her minivan until it shit the bed.
But I’ve been trying to tell myself it would be different, because this is one of my dream cars, and the only one I’d ever be able to afford. So when a beautiful pearl white GT model with the two-tone white and black leather seats that is virtually impossible to find showed up at the dealership down the street, I was intrigued to say the least.
My buddy was in charge of test-driving it, but first we went to another dealership to test drive a black one with the sports package. So no leather seats, no sunroof, and no white color, which are three huge selling points for me.
But when we went to look at the white one, the guy who owns it said he doesn’t allow people to test drive the cars, but he would take us out for a spin in it. This should have set off a red flag for me, but with such a beautiful car in front of me, I wasn’t paying attention.
However, when I got home and said I needed to start shopping around for a loan (they don’t do financing), and told my mom we couldn’t test drive it, she started talking me out of it. She didn’t want me to buy this car anyways because it’s standard, but she just gave up and didn’t argue.
She did this time.
Turns out, when my dad got home, the place is actually a horror story for most customers. So now with some common sense talked into me, I will start looking for a regular Mazda6, and if the looks start bothering me, I’ll just find the front-end of a Speed6 and put it on the regular 6. And I won’t be going anywhere near that dealership, because I don’t need to deal with that kind of stress.
My buddy’s thinking about buying it, though. >:D
